Faith, Doubt, And Listening

Roger Marum, you are the ‘reluctant disciple’ whose spirituality is deep and inspiring. Your written thoughts are a continual stimulus to my faith, taking me in new and unknown directions with amazing results. You lead me to consider aspects of my otherwise pedestrian life that are fresh. You keep me alive and on the edge with your occasional explorations. I thank you for your ministry of challenging my orthodoxy and enlivening my faith.

The Rev. Bill Lane Doulos, Founder Jubilee Homes, Author of Hearts on Fire:
The Evolution of an Urban Church

Doctor Roger Marum is an interesting and effective storyteller. His stories wrestle with real life issues. The stories are often situations with which we can identify. Often, they reveal things which we may have been thinking but haven’t been able to articulate. He is honest, vulnerable and transparent. People identify with stories. We recognize something of ourselves in stories told by others. His writings have helped us laugh, maybe cry, practice personal reflection and have greater empathy in relating with others. Reading his work will take you through all these experiences and bring a smile to your face.

Dr. Alan Forsman, Colleague. Co-author of Crescendo: An Ascent to Vital Living

In a world where guilt and shame permeate too many souls, here comes Roger Marum’s wonderfully written book. As he writes so achingly honest about his quest to make Jesus more real to him, he gives us permission to do the same, something we may feel too guilty to admit but secretly yearn for.

As a fellow seeker, and more often than I’d like to admit, a fellow doubted, I find your writing to be a blessing that makes me realize that I’m not so odd after all.

I enjoyed reading every word. It gave me a new perspective on your innermost thoughts and feelings, like seeing a movie of your life

Roger made January’s top ten list for ELP. Awesome. Interesting book. I hope you and God return to Langer’s Deli for another pastrami sandwich—very funny chapter— a deli where, one day, I too may enjoy a pastrami sandwich in God’s company!

I’m enjoying the book, one small bite (A Good Way To Die) at a time.

Roger reminds me there are so many lessons learned in our daily experience if only we pay attention. Keep “painting” with your pen, sharing the humanness and godliness in what you observe.

Bette P.

Thank you for this beautiful book. I’m reading one chapter a day to allow me the time to think about your words, and savor your stories.

Nancy A.

I read the book in 24 hours and wanted more after I’d turned the last page. I’ve always felt uncomfortable going to God in prayer with a list of requests and the expectation that if done well some magic will occur. Roger’s words encourage me to listen more than petition.

Dona C.

Love the title, cover, and now excited to delve into the book.

Kathleen P.

Roger made me think, thank you, and I’ll be recommending your book to friends, and several like-minded priests I know—they’ll enjoy it.

I’ve been blessed and inspired by Roger’s book, Faith, Doubt, and Listening. I found his writing to be transparent and authentic. The groupings of parts and variety of stories made for easy and refreshing reading.
